Workshops

Dr. Rydell provides both Professional Workshops and Family Trainings on topics related to autism spectrum disorders. These presentations will discuss the interrelationships of a) learning style, b) social and communication development, c) emotional regulation and d) behavior challenges in children with autism spectrum disorders. Attendees will increase their understanding of a) how our children learn based on the core challenges of ASD, and b) how our children may become emotionally dysregulated when our teaching methods and strategies do not consider, nor match up with these learning styles. These potential mismatches may subsequently lead toward a high level of child anxiety, distress and coping behaviors, which in some cases result in "behavior challenges". We will provide specific guidelines and practical intervention strategies for individual/group therapies and classroom structure so that our children are spending less time coping and more time learning.
In these very practical presentations, Dr. Rydell will draw heavily from the developmental and core challenges literature in ASD as well as his 30 years of professional experience in ASD. To illustrate the assessment and intervention components, he will review The Learning Style Profile protocol that has been developed and used at Rocky Mountain Autism Center as well as components of the SCERTS® Model.

Professional Workshops are designed for teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers and health-care professionals.

Family Trainings are designed for parents and family members of children and adolescents who have autism spectrum disorders.

Workshops and Trainings are both hosted at Rocky Mountain Autism Center and at your site.
